The Prime Minster has just updated England on his next steps in the fight against Coronavirus.

On Wednesday, 4 November 2020 Parliament will vote on the measures that he has put forward tonight.  He said that ‘no responsible Prime Minister can ignore the message’ of the figures and statistics.

The Prime Minster acknowledged the cost and impact of closures and has stressed that he has wanted to further closures.

From 4 November 2020 you must stay at home.

None essential shops, leisure and entertainment venues must close.

You may only leave the house:

  • for education (including childcare and early years care);
  • if you cannot work from home;
  • for exercise with your household, alone or with 1 person from another household;
  • to get medical assistance or supplies;
  • to get food and essentials; or
  • to provide care to vulnerable persons.

Click and collect service can continue to operate. All bars, restaurants and pubs must close unless they are operating a take out service.

If you are over 60 or a clinically vulnerable person you must take extra measures including not attending to work even if you cannot work from home.  The shielding programme will not be started again.

The Government will extend the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (the Furlough Scheme) throughout November, although he did not announce what contribution to payments would be made by the Government, their contribution was wound down to 60% in October.

The restrictions are time limited and he hopes to lift them by 2 December 2020 reverting to a local approach thereafter.

We will continue to provide updates and offer employers more guidance as we get more information from the Government.
