New starter Tom trades betting slips for employment law

Trainee Employment Law Consultant Tom BakerWe are delighted to welcome Tom Baker to our team as a Trainee Employment Law Consultant.

Tom has got off to a flying start by supporting the team with client correspondence whilst growing his HR knowledge and learning about our amazing clients.

Joining us fresh out of uni, Tom learnt some amazing people skills at Coral book makers where he worked for three years to fund his law studies.

In the interview, we knew straight away that Tom would be a great fit within the team when his confidence and charisma shined through.

Tom is proving to be a real hit with our clients and we look forward to seeing him develop.

Check out Tom’s blog where he shares his thoughts on trading horse races for legal cases.

Our HR software has a dashbooard where you can see the reasons for staff resigning

Improve your knowledge of why employees choose to leave your business

Do you want to understand why staff have resigned?  This HR software feature might help to reduce your staff turnover, or pre-warn you of their impending departure.

Within our HR Software, we’re pleased to say that you can now conduct an exit interview and be taken through step by step through what you need to cover.

Getting the leaving process correct is key to truly learn what is behind an employee’s departure, this tool will help you do that and enable you to make changes within your business.

Within the exit interview tool, you will find all of the important questions that you need to ask, you will also then have a clear record of your leavers’ answers.

Clients who already have the HR Software, can simply mark their employee as a leaver and then they will be able to find the tool here: Employee file > Contract > Leave Summary > Exit interview.

If you don’t yet subscribe to our HR software, let us know if you would like a free demo of the software.

Christmas party

The Dos and the Don’ts at the Work Christmas Party

With Christmas less than nine weeks away many businesses will be thinking about their Christmas celebrations.  Sadly, for some employers, it isn’t all tinsel and holly but a case of punch-ups, affairs and cocaine on the table (all things we have had to deal with.)

Check out our Christmas blog on how to deal with all of these potentials and many more, whilst maintaining that festive feeling. Don’t forget to make the most of the tax deduction for parties too! Thanks to our friends at Key Accountancy for their guidance on this blog.

Hopefully, your party will be one of celebration and marking the success of 2023 within your business. However, if an event should occur then we recommend getting in touch with our lawyers ASAP to ensure that we can give you the right advice and you can action any follow-ups required in the swift manner that is crucial at this time of year.

Fire and Rehire, a new Code of Practice

Fire and Rehire, a new Code of Practice

In one of the final Acts of the Conservative government, a Code of Practice on dismissal and re-engagement (the Code) more commonly known as “fire and rehire” was passed through Parliament and came into effect on 18 July 2024. This is a statutory code which must be taken into account but it is nowhere near as robust as the Labour Party would like (see our review of the 2024 manifesto here), we can therefore, expect to see further changes to the fire and rehire rules.
